Foyle College, also known as Foyle and Londonderry College. is a co-educational voluntary grammar school for 11 to 18-year-old boys and girls. The school is situated in the Northern Irish city of Derry. The First Free Grammar School was established in Derry in 1617 and thus Foyle College’s heritage spans almost 400 years.
The College currently operates across two sites, one for the Junior School (11-14 year olds) and the other for the seniors (14-18 year olds). However, a £31 million investment will enable both parts of the school to open on a new, single site. The move is scheduled to happen in Foyle College’s 400th anniversary in 2017.
As well as the core subjects, such as English, Mathematics, Science, History and French, Foyle College also offers a diverse range of subjects which are not available in every other school. These include Geology (A-level only), Business Studies Hospitality, Sports and Active Leisure Industry, Design and Technology and Spanish. This range of subjects helps to provide the pupils with a broad education and qualifications which may be directly useful in their future careers.
