Description

Founded in 1896, Farlington is a co-educational independent day and boarding school and nursery for ages 6 months to 18 years, located in Horsham in West Sussex, England. Set within 33 acres of beautiful parkland, on the borders of Sussex and Surrey, Farlington offers a perfect rural backdrop with plenty of space to grow. A Farlington education can be summed up in the school’s three core values: Individuality, Opportunity and Community. Individuality is about finding, recognising, and celebrating each student’s voice. Our constant aim is to enable opportunities for our pupils to learn across our full and extensive curriculum, whilst each member of the school is recognised as a valued and valuable member of our community. Farlington is a school where strong friendships are forged, and where the emphasis is on respect for others, teamwork and collective responsibility. At Farlington, every student has a voice and an opportunity to shine. The school’s friendly, cohesive community and positive pupil-to-teacher ratio foster an environment where ambition is never stifled, where existing talents are honed and new ones are discovered, where inquisitive minds are developed, and where students grasp every opportunity that comes their way.

What is Farlington School Like?

Farlington has always been a very special community and possessing of a strong set of values that underpin our ethos. Our students are bright, witty, engaging and charming, and our staff work tirelessly to make a positive difference in guiding and supporting them to choose their own path, reflective of their interests and talents. By the time they leave us, our students are independent, grounded and rounded young people, able to confidently make their own way in life. People and relationships are what Farlington is all about! We strive to help our students develop confidence and self-belief, both inside and outside of the classroom.  Friendships are forged for life, and our emphasis is on promoting respect for others, celebrating teamwork, and developing collective responsibility. Our size means that every pupil is known, and their voice is heard and respected. Older students play a positive role in supporting younger ones, and as a true ‘through school’ and nursery – educating students on the same site from 6 months to 18 years – we provide a caring and cohesive community.  At Farlington, we encourage our students to be ambitious for themselves in all that they do, to take risks, to challenge themselves, and – importantly – to challenge and support one another.  Pastoral care and wellbeing are at the heart of a Farlington education, as is the importance of having fun, and we passionately believe that happiness enables success.

Would Farlington School be suitable for my child?

We appreciate that choosing the right setting for your child is a hugely important decision, whether you are looking for a day or boarding place, in Lower School, Middle School, Senior School or Sixth Form, or a nursery place at Little Farlington, our new nursery. The best way for you to find out whether Farlington is the right choice - for your child, and also for you as a family - is to visit us. To arrange a tour, please don't hesitate to get in touch with our Admissions Team, by telephone on 01403 282573, or by email to admissions@farlingtonschool.com.  Visits during termtime will include a meeting with the Headmaster, and a chance to meet some of our teachers and pupils. You will also enjoy a guided tour of our beautiful estate and fantastic facilities. During school holidays, our Admissions Team will be able to give you a tour of the school and answer any questions you may have. Alternatively, we run a series of Open Events throughout the year and these are an excellent way to get a taste of life at Farlington – to meet staff and pupils, tour our grounds and facilities, and experience our exceptional catering. For details of upcoming Open Events, please see www.farlingtonschool.com/1099/visiting-farlington. Please note that advance booking is essential for these events – you may use the form on our website to reserve your place.

Scholarships and Bursaries

Farlington School offers Scholarships in the fields of Academic, Art, Drama, Music and Sport. These Scholarships offer talented students the opportunity to flourish, and to contribute to and benefit from Farlington’s ethos and life at the school.  Our Scholarships are applied for entry at Year 7 (11+), Year 9 (13+) and Year 12 (16+).  We also offer a Vive Scholarship for those students who are able to demonstrate excellence in more than one field, including academics. Vive Scholars are expected to be at a level where they would be offered an Academic Scholarship and at least one other Scholarship in another field (at Sixth Form, two areas would likely be expected). These awards are highly prized and offered sparingly.   Farlington may also offer financial assistance to Senior School pupils who are unable to pay full fees. As a school, we are committed to broadening access by offering means-tested bursaries to beneficiaries who would otherwise not be able to attend Farlington. All bursary awards are subject to annual testing of parental means and may be varied as parental circumstances change. Awards are assessed on the basis of a completed Confidential Statement of Financial Circumstances. For further information about Scholarships or bursaries, please contact our Admissions Team (01403 282573; admissions@farlingtonschool.com).
