Description

Farlington is a family school in the truest sense. Every child here is known and valued, and small classes throughout the school help to create a nurturing environment, allowing every student's voice to be heard. We pride ourselves on the holistic education that we offer. We firmly believe that academic and pastoral provision cannot be separated, and that the importance of providing outstanding pastoral care is directly linked to what students are able to achieve academically, and whether they fulfil their potential. We offer a rich and varied curriculum, as well as a very broad range of extra-curricular activities, and results at GCSE and A-Level are consistently impressive. In 2021, 71% of our Year 13 students achieved A* to A in their A-Levels, and 67% of our Year 11 students achieved 9 to 7 in their GCSEs. Nestled in 33 acres of beautiful parkland on the Sussex/Surrey borders, and within easy reach of Central London and Gatwick Airport, our location is both convenient and idyllic.

What is Farlington School Like?

It may be a cliché, but Farlington truly does have a family feel, and our community is tight-knit and welcoming. We understand that it is not just your child who is joining our school; it is the whole family. Our smaller size means that every pupil at Farlington, from Reception right up to Year 13, is recognised as a valued and valuable member of the school. As a true ‘through school’ – educating students on the same site from 4 to 18 years – we provide a caring and cohesive environment in which students of all ages flourish. At Farlington, lifelong friendships are forged, and many happy memories made.

Would Farlington School be suitable for my child?

Our aim is to instil within our pupils a long-lasting love of learning. We stretch the most able and support the least confident so that they each fulfil their individual academic potential. Our most recent Independent Schools Inspectorate report described Farlington as providing ‘an excellent curriculum with outstanding teaching.’ Our staff pride themselves on an ability to harness your child’s academic talents, and their priority is to provide an education which challenges and inspires all pupils, irrespective of ability. Just as you do, we want your child to achieve their very best at Farlington, but – more importantly – we want every pupil in our care to be happy. For this reason, the school has a very strong pastoral vision and a whole-school ethos geared towards wellbeing, promoting a positive and holistic approach to good mental health.

Admission Process

The best way for you to find out whether Farlington School is the right choice – for your child, and also for you as a family – is to visit us. Our door is always open – whether you choose to visit Farlington on an Open Day, or on an individual visit. Our main Open Events are normally held at weekends in October and March; please visit https://www.farlingtonschool.com for details of upcoming Open Events. You may also find it useful to visit us on a weekday, to truly see us in action. Once you have visited us and have met key staff, we find it is helpful for prospective pupils to do a Taster Day and/or a boarding sleepover. This gives your child the opportunity to see if Farlington is the school for them! And because we want to make sure your child is as happy as possible, you can book as many Taster Days as you think he or she needs. If you are happy to proceed, we would then ask you to complete a registration form and pay a registration fee, after which your child would be invited to attend an assessment day. Depending on their age, this will involve an informal assessment (for entry into Reception, Year 1 and Year 2) or written assessments in Mathematics and English. Provided that entrance requirements have been met, we would then make an offer of a place, and once this offer is accepted your child will be invited to induction events to help make his or her transition to Farlington as smooth as possible. Please note that, whilst our excellent GCSE and A Level results might suggest we accept only students who are already achieving very high standards, we actually take a very broad intake of pupils. We are looking for students who will do well, whatever their education before joining us, and entry is often not as difficult as some people fear. If you would like any further information about Admissions at Farlington, please don't hesitate to get in touch by telephone on 01403 282573 or by email: admissions@farlingtonschool.com. 1. Enquiry The first step is to contact our Admissions Department (admissions@farlingtonschool.com; 01403 282573). We will send you a prospectus and invite you to visit us, and meet our Headmaster, Mr James Passam, as soon as possible. 2. Visit Whether you decide to visit us during an Open Event or arrange a personal tour of the school on a day that is convenient for you, we invite you to come and see for yourself what makes Farlington such a special place. 3. Taster Days Once you have visited us and met key staff, we encourage prospective pupils to attend a Taster Day, or an overnight stay for boarders. 4. Registration At this stage, we ask you to complete a registration form and pay a registration fee of either £100 (UK pupils) or £150 (International pupils). 5. Assessment Day Depending on your child's age, this will involve an informal assessment (for entry into Reception, Year 1 and Year 2) or written assessments in Mathematics and English. 6. Offer The next step is for us to offer your child a place at Farlington, provided that all of the entrance requirements have been met. 7. Place Acceptance Once you are happy to proceed and accept our offer of a place at Farlington, you will be asked to pay a deposit to secure your child's place at the school.

Scholarships and Bursaries

Farlington School offers Scholarships in the fields of Academic, Art, Drama, Music and Sport. These Scholarships offer talented students the opportunity to flourish, and to contribute to and benefit from Farlington’s ethos and life at the school. Our Scholarships are applied for entry at Year 7 (11+), Year 9 (13+) and Year 12 (16+). All Scholarships are offered at up to 10% fee remission. We also offer a Vive Scholarship for those students who are able to demonstrate excellence in more than one field, including academics. Vive Scholars are expected to be at a level where they would be offered an Academic Scholarship and at least one other Scholarship in another field (at Sixth Form, two areas would likely be expected). These awards are highly prized and offered sparingly.
