Cranford House continues to enjoy a growing national reputation for excellence as one of the UK's leading small independent day schools. Situated on the Oxfordshire-Berkshire border, we offer a vibrant education to girls and boys aged 3-18. Rated 'Excellent' in all categories, our school specialises in academic achievement, outstanding pastoral care and extra-curricular opportunities for all. We have an excellent reputation for providing pupils with a balanced, all-round education within a warmly nurturing environment. Set in over 14 acres of rural South Oxfordshire, our aim is to encourage pupils to achieve their full potential, becoming motivated, confident and happy individuals, recognising the importance of respect and support for others, but ready to seize life's opportunities.
Cranford House prides itself on its ability to provide a vibrant education to its pupils. Within the Junior School this means balancing academic skills with the enquiry-based approach of Science, Design Technology and Computing. Although lesson content is largely based on the National Curriculum, our teachers ensure pupils’ learning is supplemented so they can develop their own collaborative, reflective and reasoning skills and abilities. We believe it’s important for our pupils to learn responsibility from a young age meaning our Junior pupils have the opportunity to get involved in posts such as Heads of Junior School and Junior House Captains. In our Senior School, pupils follow a common core curriculum before choosing their GCSE subjects. Small class sizes allow our Senior pupils to form a close community and receive the support and challenge they need to achieve their full potential. The academic ambition we foster in our pupils has led to Cranford House consistently attaining excellent GCSE results with a value-added score of 1.5, meaning the majority of our pupils attain over one grade above what predictions suggest they would achieve at a similar school. Outside of the curriculum, our pupils benefit from an outstanding extra-curricular programme with a strong reputation for Music, Performing Arts and Sport. Pupils enjoy use of our excellent sporting facilities which include extensive games fields, sports hall, year-round Swimming Pool, all-weather hockey pitch and new sports field which caters for Cricket and Football. Beyond the rich curriculum, our enrichment programme offers our pupils the ability to experience a wealth of enriching opportunities from over 100 Clubs and Activities from Judo, Rowing and Dance to Cookery, Music and Creative Arts.
Choosing the right school for your child is one of the most important decisions a parent will make. Not only do you want to give your child the best possible start to their educational journey, but you want to ensure they are in a supportive environment where they can grow their confidence and build friendships. Community is at the heart of all we do in Cranford House and, although we have a strong reputation for teaching excellence and academic success, a Cranford Education offers much more than that. Throughout their years at Cranford House, our specialist teaching staff will ensure each child feels safe and supported so they have the confidence to try new things, ignite their curiosity and take on new challenges. “I am proud of the breadth of opportunities on offer at Cranford House, the generosity of spirit and mutual respect the pupils have for each other and uniquely inclusive nature of all our activities. A Cranford House education really does prepare all our pupils for modern life and an exciting future." – Dr James Raymond, Headmaster The best way to get a flavour of life here at Cranford House is to see the school in action for yourself by visiting us on one of our Open Days or scheduling a personal visit. At Cranford House, places are not offered due to academic ability alone. Our school is a place where children with a whole host of interests both inside and beyond the classroom thrive. We aim to provide a well-rounded, opportunity-rich education to children ready and willing to make the most of it and it is this fit that we seek to identify during the admissions process. Prospective pupils are not expected to prepare before our entry assessments and the process is designed to allow everyone the chance to showcase their talents, abilities and enthusiasms.
